The Law of Attraction: A Hoax Or Reality?

Whether on TikTok or daily blogs, one of the most famous things now is affirmation laws such as the law of attraction. But what is it actually? Is it the way to miracles, as people claim it to be, or a waste of time?

Thoughts associated with the future are, in one way or another, plagued with negativity for most individuals. The unforeseen events imbue people with an unnecessary urge to worry. They mostly perceive the future with a hint of fear. But what if the opposite were true? What if people looked at the future as full of opportunities and success? What if their positive thinking excited them about the future and their career? That is what the law of attraction is all about.

Origin

The law of attraction has been around for centuries. Its objectives are quite similar to the ancient religion of Buddhism which was founded 2,500 years ago in India. One of Buddha’s famous quotes reflects the law of attraction,

"If with a pure mind a person speaks or acts, happiness follows them like a never-departing shadow."

The principle of the law of attraction appeared in various publications from the Russian mystic Helena Blavatsky’s publication in 1877 and William Walker’s book,  “Thinking Vibration or the Law of Attraction in the Thought World” in 1907.

Prentice Mulford was the first to propose the term “Law of Attraction” as a universal concept in his essay “The Law of Success” in 1886. The law of attraction proposes that human beings and their thoughts are made of pure energy.

Just like the electromagnetic waves that surround us all the time, pure energy is the field of positive or negative aura that surrounds each person. It is much like potential energy or kinetic energy and has a direct impact on the people and environment in the immediate vicinity of an individual.

If people have positive thoughts, they release positive energy into the world, which helps them manifest their goals. Similarly, people with negative thoughts release negative energy into the world and attract negative consequences to their thoughts.

This mode of thought was originally reflected in the New Thought” movement. Phineas Quimby was a mentalist in the 19th century. was the earliest proponent of the New Thought

He was diagnosed with tuberculosis. The doctors gave him a death sentence because there was no cure for tuberculosis in those days.

Quimby, on the other hand, was not one to give up. He took to horse riding as a way to achieve the excitement and a flurry of activity. Soon, he came to the realisation that the joy of riding helped him overcome his disease. He started treating people by explaining the cause of their illness and emphasising to his patients that “The Truth is the Cure”. He aimed to propound the idea that “right thinking” has a healing impact on the body. He lived a full life and died at the age of 63.

Power Of Now

The law of attraction has taken the world by storm, especially after the pandemic. The isolation of the pandemic has led many to dwell deep into their psychological problems and become a victim of depression. As a result, many people have started searching for positive affirmations and using the law of attraction to improve their lives.

The Power Of Now was first published in 1997 and is one of the most widely read books on positive thinking. It is one of those few books that has significantly impacted people’s lives.

Eckhart Tolle, the author of the book, explains that the mind is an instrument that should be used to elevate one’s strengths rather than cause pain or anxiety.

“The mind is a superb instrument if used rightly. Used wrongly, however, it becomes very destructive. To put it more accurately, it is not so much that you use your mind wrongly - you usually don’t use it at all. It uses you.”

Fact And Fiction

If we look at the statistics revealed by the author and a law firm owner Elliott Schuchardt, only about 3% of the population believes and consciously applies the law of attraction, and to everyone’s surprise, these are the most powerful and successful people on the planet.

Oprah Winfrey, the successful show host, and philanthropist is a firm believer in the law of attraction.

“The way you think creates reality for yourself.”

Elliot Schuchardt explains that 40% of the population accepts the law of attraction concept but does not pursue it properly. He maintains that people who want to reap the benefits of the law of attraction must believe in it completely.

Unfortunately, 57% of the population does not appear to accept the theory presently and continues to struggle with hard realities without any positive affirmations.

Claiming Positivity By Projecting Positivity

The law of attraction does not work by simply wishing that everything should fall into place. It requires a commitment to a positive mindset to grow and change daily. The followers of a positive mindset reset their actions to fulfil their commitment. Hard work is the key to manifesting positive thoughts into reality.

Procrastination and laziness are manifestations of negative thinking. That is why you need to set some short-term goals daily. As people change their habits and keep encouraging themselves with positive affirmations, they start to change their lives.

Impact of Positive affirmations

Positive affirmations continue to boost mental and physical health by reminding people to follow healthy beliefs and practices. According to the latest research in Neuroplasticity, The brain has the power to rewire itself and adapt to new situations.

Restructure A Positive Mindset

Positive affirmations help people restructure their brain activity to achieve their targets. When they visualise themselves successfully finishing a task, finding solutions for complex problems, or winning a medal, they increase their ability to achieve those targets practically.

Flourishing Work Space

With the confidence and positive mindset that comes with affirmations, people tend to create a more pleasant environment at the workplace. They exude confidence and help people out of difficult situations. A little counselling helps their coworkers or employees to improve their productivity over time and create a workspace where everyone works according to their full potential.

Identifying Personal Needs And Goals

People who focus on building a positive mindset quickly realise that some things are missing from their lifestyle. Therefore, they define their personal needs and take time to achieve these goals. Positive affirmations give you the energy to pursue your goals and find ways to reach them with the utmost ease.

Reminder Of Positive Change

It is necessary to keep a reality check on positive affirmations. They are not like wishing wands that will provide solutions at the flick of the wrist. These positive affirmations are reminders that help people realise that they can achieve much more than they already have. They take people out of the slump of negative thoughts and push them towards change.

Transition From Thought To Action

Once people develop a positive mindset, they create a glow of positive energy around them. This energy drives them towards action. People consciously work towards achieving their goals by setting a schedule, building healthy eating and sleeping patterns, and working on their goals every day. They are no longer the victims of anxiety, depression, and overthinking as they take the reins of their thought processes.
